About the Author

Craig Sebenik was responsible for the Salt infrastructure while at LinkedIn. LinkedIn is still one of the largest deployments of Salt in the world today. He is now at a startup, Matterport, using Salt in the cloud and with a small team of developers. Working in companies both large and small has given him rare insight into the use of Salt, and being involved since version 0.8 has given Craig a front-row seat for the evolution of Salt through the years.

Thomas S Hatch is the creator of Salt and CTO of SaltStack. Thomas is still the largest contributor to the Salt project despite the fact that Salt is now the largest developer community in DevOps.

Good read about Salt stack
By IT guy
This book helped me come up to speed about Salt in just 3 days - I work in a company trying to migrate their apps to the cloud and one of the challenges was migrating from an older orchestration framework (mcollective) to Salt - chosen because of its consistent programming model and its scalability with speed.

I just wished the book had more details about Salt's capability for different topologies and how we can leverage more with Runners by writing our own custom orchestration mechanism. But I understand that the authors PoV that this book is meant to show us the door about different powerful capabilities about Salt - and its website has the path to more details, which makes sense.

it is almost useless if you already use it
By Igor Karpov
Too short for a book, too long for introduction to SaltStack, it is almost useless if you already use it. I wish this book be something like 'Ansible Up & Running' by Lorin Hochstein.
