About the Author
Andrew Chambers is Professor of Internal Auditing at London South Bank University and Professor Emeritus of Cass Business School, London. He runs Management Audit LLP specializing in auditing and corporate governance work, and is a member of the international Internal Audit Standards Board.
Graham Rand specializes in IT auditing, risk management and operational review. His career, in the UK and overseas, has featured involvement in a range of organizations, principally in the electrical retail, financial services and public sectors. Much of his current consultancy is on Information Management, Records Management, IT Security and providing support on the development of Risk Management and Information Security environments.

This book is an asset

This is a very comprehensive book that covers all that a new auditor may want to learn or an expert auditor may need to consult. The 62 "Chapters" of the book book are divided into three "Parts" that deal respectively with "Understanding Operational Auditing", "Auditing Key Functions" and "Auditing Information Technology".
A chapter on "Governance Processes" in Part I is commendable since it collects information that is scattered in many other books into one chapter.
Part II has dedicated chapters on the auditing of "key functions" including finance and accounting, contracts and purchasing, operations, marketing, distribution, human resources, R&D, security and even environmental responsibility. A chapter that I found very useful and unusual here is the one titled "Auditing Subsidiaries, Remote Operating Units and Joint Ventures". In my view this Part should have a chapter titled "Auditing Governance".
Part III is dedicated completely to IT and it deals with this aspect is good detail.
The book has additional material that is available from the Web site.
I have found this book to be a very valuable asset as a professional and is highly recommended for the student, the novice and the expert alike.

The Operational Auditing Handbook – Auditing Business and IT Processes 2nd Edition by Andrew Chambers ad Graham Rand
This book was first published in 1997 and it has never been out of print. That in itself establishes this volume as the quintessential practical manual for both internal auditors and managers. The authors cover every conceivable business activity by identifying the issues, risks and objectives. The new edition updates all of the areas covered by the first edition and adds governance, risk management and internal controls recognizing changes in the business environment. One area that auditors will find extremely useful is coverage on information technology and regulatory requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley.
The book (nearly 900 pages) is truly a companion for auditors designing management control self-assessment programs. The Operational Auditing Handbook true value is recognized with a companion Website containing Word versions of the 200 business activities Standard Audit Program Guides (SAPG) listed in Appendix 1. The hardcover book is available on Amazon for $160 or Kindle for $119 and while that may seem high for a student textbook when you consider that it also includes more than 200 audit program templates it is a great value for auditors.
