It's like history's greatest hits!

What is the best strategy book of all time? The Prince by Machiavelli, The Art of War by Sun Tzu, The Book of Five Rings by Musashi? What about where the greatest war stories come from? Ancient Greece, medieval Europe, or perhaps China's dynastic period? Throw in any ancient war strategy and political history book, and most likely Robert Greene has analysed them in the contextual manner within 48 theories that become his laws of power.�

It has the brilliant war strategies used by Napoleon Bonaparte, George Washington and Mao Tse Tung, the ruthlessness of Ivan the Terrible, John D Rockefeller and Henry VIII, and the wisdoms of Roman Emperors and ancient Japanese tea masters. It is heavy with the tricks and lies used by Henry Kissinger and Otto Von Bismarck, the masterclass diplomacy of Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill, or the seductive techniques of the mythical Mata Hari and the many European mistresses. It is by far the most comperensive history book I've ever read, and it got to be the book I've read at the slowest pace. I read and re-read it, highlighted and made lots of notes, and actually made several changes in the way I analyse things, in the way I behave and in understanding other people's behaviours.�

Einstein once said that the secret of creativity is knowing how to hide your sources. This book has become an analysis tool so valuable that I hesitated for a while on whether or not I should write a review and reveal my sources. You know what, don't read this book. It's a waste of time and it won't do you any good.

Great read, from start to finish! Thanks, Robert Greene ;)

This is a controversial book, mostly because the average person wishes the world were peaceful, friendly, and not full of chaos and drama...

Well, unfortunately, wishes don't make it a reality, and there are people out there who prey on the weak and take advantage of those who are too trusting. The 48 Laws of Power (by Robert Greene) illuminates many ways that those predatory people can gain power over anyone who is not aware of the manipulation and power games they play. And while it may take some practice, study, and a keen eye for detail, anyone can learn to spot these (often subtle) power struggles and often even turn the tables on the enemy at hand!

Please, if you are considering reading this book but are 'on the fence' about it because of the people saying negative things about it, just read it! This has become one of my favorite books in a short period of time, and it has given me a new way to perceive the world around me. Robert Greene is a great author, and the way this book is formatted / written makes it educational, entertaining, and compelling, all at the same time. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to every single person in the world, because it is not for the faint of heart; but if you've ever been taken advantage of, shut out of someone's life, lost control of a situation, had someone feign authority over you (successfully), had relationship problems, problems in the workplace, etc, you deserve to give this a read-through at LEAST once. Don't take everything at face-value... and by that I mean don't decapitate anyone for "transgression" of any of the laws, but definitely think about times you have seen these laws at work, and how a grasp on a relevant law from the book could have changed the outcome of that particular scenario.

.Long story short, this is an amazing book! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! :)

Fascinating Anecdotes, Questionable "Laws", Poor Documentation

Greene has collected an amazing array of historical anecdotes, ranging from the great empires and monarchies of the ancient world to 20th century movers and shakers, in an effort to explain “laws” of power. I don’t entirely agree with Greene’s narrative, primarily due to the fact that “laws” cannot be based on a foundation of anecdotes (no matter how fascinating) and several of the principles, stories, and advice he presents are contradictory (which he, conveniently, tries to shirk in the last chapter by asserting that no laws are fixed and everything is subject to circumstance). I also don’t believe human nature is nearly as Machiavellian as Greene suggests, though he clearly shows that we can have the propensity to be base, deceptive, and ruthless in our self-interested quest for power.

Overall, I enjoyed the book, though it was somewhat uneven. I also wish Greene did a better job at documenting his sources with more reliable footnotes (which are entirely absent from the main text).

A "MUST READ"

Although I (seriously) have more than a thousand books in my non-fiction library, I rarely write reviews. I'm not sure why - I am an English teacher living on a 40 acre farm and I have actually READ all of the books I have from cover to cover (really). However, I am making an exception for this book - I couldn't put it down. It was fantastic reading from beginning to end. Now, part of the reason I might have liked it so much (disclaimer) is because, like the author, I am also middle-aged... but I truly think the reason it resonated with me was because it is an honest telling of both the good and the frustrating times the author had trying to carve out their farmstead. If you are looking for a step by step "How To" book, this isn't the one for you (although you should still buy it and read it, because it WILL help you). If you are looking for an honest look at the types of experiences one might have while trying to establish a homestead, and how one couple went about dealing with everything, this is IT!!!! I have loaned out my copy to several neighbors already, and they loved it too. We are all hoping there is more to come from this author.

5 Acres and a Dream: From Fantastic Blog to Fantastic Book

5 Acres and a Dream is a fantastic blog, one I've been reading for a couple of years now. I've always been impressed with homesteader Leigh's (and husband Dan's) measured, logical approach. When a problem presents itself, they research and come up with the best solution for them.

When I first got a hint that maybe a book was in the works I was excited and also a bit curious. Would it just be another book about how to homestead? How much of Leigh and Dan would be in the book? Would it simply be a collection of posts from the blog?

Alas, I had nothing to worry about. The book is outstanding!

Sure, the book talks a lot about homesteading, and there are even some recipes included. The footnotes and reference section provide a wealth of further reading and information.

But where the book shines best is where the author talks about their mindset and relates their thought process -- what brought them to each decision they made.

I did not buy this book strictly as a "how to" manual for homesteading. Rather, I wanted to know more about Leigh and Dan's experience, more about the road that brought them here. But don't get me wrong, you could certainly do worse for homesteading information -- the book is stuffed full of hints, tips, and handy references for everything from cheesemaking to forestry. Often, Leigh includes alternatives or options for other ways to produce, grow, fix, or care for various components of the homestead.

And where other books can come across as preachy or condescending, 5 Acres and a Dream: the Book has a friendly, helpful tone. The author talks about why they made the decisions they made, but does not chastise those that haven't made the same choices.

She talks about what worked and what did not. She mentions their failures, rather than painting the whole experience in the rosy "DIY" light that we get on television and most other books on the subject.

I loved this book! And it's a beauty, certainly worthy of your bookshelf. Leigh packed the book with dozens and dozens of photos, really bringing their homestead to life. The writing's concise and the layout is so well done. Often, self-published books fall victim to layout/structural issues, but Leigh (as usual!) did her homework and devoted a year to getting it right. Yes, true to her philosophy, she did everything herself rather than hiring out the various parts of production. That meant learning many new opensource software programs and diving into self-publishing head first. The results speak for themselves.

I highly recommend this book.

Both Educational and Entertaining - Worth Reading!

If you like Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, then you are going to love Leigh Tate's book. It is not a repeat of her popular blog, 5 Acres & A Dream (which I have read since the beginning), but a very concise telling of the planning, work, research and love that she and her husband, Dan, have put into making their 5 acres as self-sustaining as possible. Not only does she explain their successes, but also their failures in order to help others who want to become self-sustaining as much as possible. The book is enjoyable to read and there are over 140 images to help explain and show you what they have done are are doing. And recipes!!! I will be telling everyone I know about this book. Thank you, Leigh, for writing this book.

It is a good text for practicing the logic of critical reasoning, timing of answering the 200 questions and rational of the correct choice. I feel like my review of this book and review of major charts in our OTA program fully prepared me to pass the exam. One week seemed to be plenty of time to prepare as the two years of study is what truly helped me.

This book contains attunements and empowerments to many different forms of Reiki and other energy modalities. Over 30,000 people have been attuned worldwide to the energies via this book and it is highly successful if you do strongly intend to receive them in a relaxed state. I have personally prepared the attunements and sent them via a chi ball to you, the reader of this book. Each attunement/empowerment was prepared with the intent that each is perfectly and powerfully received when each reader/recipient asks to receive. The book serves as an embedding mechanism for delivery of the attunements. Although there is a description of the modalities and some other information, the true purpose of this book is to deliver the prepared energies to you.

First, read the background information for the modalities, then when you are ready, begin receiving the attunements/empowerments one at a time, starting with Usui Reiki Level One. The order of the attunements/empowerments in the book is the order that I have found to be the best vibrationally. The modalities are ordered from lower vibration to higher vibration to facilitate reception of the energies.

Second, it is important for you, the reader, to be prepared when you receive the attunements/empowerments. It is best to receive, at most, one attunement per day, to assist with the integration of the energies. To receive, either sit or lie down in a place you will not be disturbed. Turn off your phone. Get in a restful, meditative state, focusing on your breath. This shuts off your mind and the stress from the day. A this point you are ready to receive the energies. Strongly desire to receive the attunement or empowerment you have chosen by saying the words to receive three times. Intend and express your will to receive the energies. This will help with the delivery of the energies.

Third, relax and receive. Don't guide the energies while you receive them, let them guide you. Relax, accept the process as perfect and accept the energies and feel the energy flow from your crown to many different parts of your body. Feel the energy over-light you. The process typically takes about 30 minutes. When you feel the energies have finished, give thanks to the Divine. Rest and drink water following each attunement or empowerment. Then follow the guidance for the next modality as stated in the background information for the modalities and then take the next attunement or empowerment on the next day or in a few days or a week, however it is stated in the introduction to the energies on how you should receive them. Also although the majority of people feel the energies powerfully, some may have an experience where the energies are subtle or not feel the energies at all. This depends on how clear each individual is and how relaxed an individual is when they request to receive the energies. Do not worry, the energies are perfectly received when you ask for them, even if you do not always feel them at first. They continue working on you while you sleep and over time, clearing you, healing you, and attuning you to assist you in your path of becoming a healer. Feel free to practice giving yourself a self healing after each attunement or empowerment, this will strengthen the flow of energy to heal yourself and others. Place your hands on yourself and say "(Name of system) Reiki on!" Wait and then the energies will begin to flow through you.

Wonderful book full of great information

I loved this book. It taught me alot and it gave me wonderful ways in which to enrich my meditations and healing work for myself and my clients. I use it daily and thoroughly enjoy it. When I held " the Living Light ' in my hands . . . I felt I was not holding a book.

To describe exactly what I felt in my hands would be a little bit difficult ...
therefore I will say it simply: I felt a lot of energy... I felt my hands lightening
up like a Christmas tree and I was not even meditating or reading it .... just holding it.
What if .... a book contains so much Love that you can feel it every time you
watch it, what if ... you feel that every single word that has been written in there, conveys love, compassion, and above all a Great Desire to make You the reader

Fanny Lewald is an engaging and provocative author whose autobiography is much more than just the story of her life. The broad scope of this book (politics, art, religion, philosophy)comes from Lewald's varied interests and own deep involvement in her tumultuous times. Germany and Europe as whole were going through lots of changes--revolutions in many fields--and Lewald participated in many of them and was a perceptive and thoughtful observer of all of them.
The book is beautifully and sensitively translated, making it a pleasure to read.

Another Tool For My Wife's Well-Being Toolbox!

I'm the 'wife' in the headline and had to write this review because I LOVE this book! I've always enjoyed receiving letters (not bills) and the tactile feeling of opening the letters in this book brings back the memories of letters past from my own dynamic mother. The simple letters contained in this book are concise and written with heartfelt wisdom summoning one's soul to reflect, and spirit to lift when...life hurts. The book has the resonance of receiving a letter from a wise and loving parent. I would highly suggest this book for anyone who needs a quick little boost. Thank you Karen for yet another uplifting book! LOVE IT! :)

CPR FOR THE SOUL- OPEN AS NEEDED

I have been a longtime fan of Karen Salmansohn, mainly because she is the "real deal" and is not embarrassed to admit that she HAS experienced everything she writes about, FIRST HAND.

I have learned more from her than I have from speaking to professionals with PhD's and MDs, because she is so empathetic and non-judge mental. As a result, I always feel so connected to her ideas, especially bc of her use of down-to-earth language.
I love how Karen doesn't use a filter when writing and many of her quotes remind me of things I wish I could say, but don't feel "ballsy" enough to say it out loud. This makes one feel understood and reassured to not feel alone, especially when you think you are the ONLY one with that thought pattern.

I pre-ordered 3 copies of the book and bought 2 as gifts. Upon arrival, I gave all 3 copies to different individuals, who were grieving tragic deaths. I didn't have words of comfort for them, but the book did. They were very appreciative for that.

From an organizational standpoint, I love the way that the book is divided by different feelings and you can go straight to a "specific emotion" you need support with.

This is the type of book that every person should have at least two copies of in his/her home, AT ALL TIMES. One copy for yourself, and one for someone needing help and comfort immediately (similar to frozen chicken soup in your freezer, for when you or your neighbor get ill)❤

I do not like reading and yet I LOVE this book. I highly recommend it !✌️☀️
