Learn as you build really useful Amateur Radio Projects

As an “older” amateur radio operator I’m trying to keep current with technology, and I’ve been playing around with simple Arduino projects for a short time. I’m disappointed in some of the Arduino how-to books because most of them just say, “get these parts, build this, download this program and it should work.
THIS book, however takes a measured approach that starts you off with the basics of Arduino and actually teaches you the theory behind how everything goes together and how it all works. It shows you how choices were made and how you might choose something different to better suit your needs.
I am working my way through the projects, as each one leads to the other, and you learn as you go.
If you want to learn HOW to use Arduino with ham radio projects, then this is the book to walk you through it. What I’ve learned from this book has given me confidence to try some other Arduino projects that are not necessarily amateur radio related.

Top notch project book.

I was a computer programmer for almost 39 years. In the beginning of January 2014 I stumbled into the Arduino world and I have been making projects since then. Many of my projects came form Arduino project books. I have built multiple clocks and a weather station. I also am an amateur radio operator but shortly after the Apple II came out I drifted away from Ham radio and eventually I donated my equipment to a boy scout trip.

When I got an ad from Amazon about this book I immediately ordered a copy. This book is much better than any of the other Ham radio project books. The instructions are very clear. I was able to construct the display project quickly. The Morse code reader was a bit more challenging because I had to reverse the audio leads to get it to work. The PS 2 Keyer worked as described.

The authors know what they are doing when it comes to coding and engineering. And the downloads provide all the source code. Also, Dr. Purdum has authored "Beginning C for Arduino" among other titles which I had read and was most helpful for me. I was retired for about six years when I purchased my first Arduino and hadn't programmed any computers since retirement. I still refer to his C book occasionally.

The bottom line is this book inspired me to return to amateur radio and build a new station using a Ten Tec Patriot, the big brother to the Rebel mentioned in the book. You should purchase this book if you are at all interested in these two exciting hobbies.

Super book for the amateur that likes to build his own equipment. Explains the Arduino and the hows and whys to use it for simple projects. Each project is fully explained so the builder can modify it to his own use. You can tell the book was written by amateurs who do there own building of amateur equipment.

I was asked to write documentation for my company's software and, while I got through the whole process, I knew I wanted to learn more about how to write documentation correctly. I didn't realize there was so much I didn't know about this field. I was looking for a book that was not too long, so I could read it between work assignments, and easy to understand for somebody with a very modest technical background. This book had a casual tone of voice that made it very enjoyable to read. I also learned A LOT, considering this is a relatively short book. Definitely recommend.

great novel

I have a weak spot for romance novels where the hero,
through pure blindness for the pain his actions cause,
leaves the heroine's life in shambles, and then gradually
a long time later realizes the pain he has caused. Then
events conspire to make the situation worse, where even his
relatives who like the heroine warn him because they have heard
a garbled story about her lack of propriety (which he knows
isn't so, since he forced the actions on her publicly, which caused
her downfall). The hero and the heroine are perfect for each
other and all works out.

If you like this sort of novel, `The Wagered Heart' is a top member of the genre
and very enjoyable to read.

Had i known it was to be one of those ill get my revenge upon him type books, i would have passed. Of course within days of hanging out with someone, who with a careless and thoughtless act, had made her life a living hell shd was madly in love with him. She never raked him over coals for what hed done to her. I never felt satisfied that he had gotten his comeuppance. The book does have a true regency feel though,mhnce two stars.

Not a bad effort - 3.5 stars

I'm not a huge fan of 'revenge' stories as they are hard to pull off without damaging the story. Here our h had her life pretty badly affected when the H kisses her in the middle of the day in London, as a result of a wager with friends. The h has to return to her village amid gossip and speculation. The H doesn't know what his stupid actions cost the h but he sees her again a year later in Bath and is drawn to her. The h is still bitter and plans revenge against the H, which doesn't make for a good foundation for a relationship. The author writes well and she creates a good story here but I felt the revenge thing went on a bit too long and detracted from what could've been a great story. Still highly recommended and very enjoyable.

Great work

Wayne Johnson was the chief investigator for the Chicago Crime Commission and in that position was always endlessly helpful to crime writers doing research on the Chicago Mob. So, basically, if an organized crime expert needed an answer on the Chicago Mob, Wayne Johnson was the guy to see. Now Wayne has placed all that knowledge in this great books of interesting case loads about the mob and the murders it commits. Its clearly and cleverly written, is complete in its facts and filled with photos. Buy this book, its well worth it.

As a former police officer, Dr.Johnson knows, "hands on", the thrill of the chase! In his book he's took to giving a brief, yet telling paragraph, sometimes more, regarding the deceased and how the came about their present states!! Being an Outfit "buff", I particularly found those related or in some way connected to the Organized Crime organization known as the Syndicate/Outfit, as the most appealing!! From Irish northsiders to straight off the boat Italians on the City's West Side, just a few examples of what Dr.Johnson has written in his mammouth book!! Thanks for the privilege of the read Dr.Johnson, a top notch book that deserves to be on any crime historians mantle/bookshelf!!!

It is very difficult to write a text suitable for tecnical

school and college undergraduate level at the same time.

The authors have accomplished this.

With this text you can begin learning to program in Mastercam

from the first chapter.

The CD included makes familarization work without the expense

of buying the full program.

excellent mastercam book i recommend it

being a former cnc programmer and now instructor i am very impressed with this book. It is easy for novices to learn the proper techniques of mastercam programming. It presents a logical learning pattern using graphics instead of confusing
and lenghty definitions contained in many other texts.I found the exercises to be well designed to illustrate the important
aspects of the software. Machinig exercises contain detailed
process tables to help the student understand the sequence of operations and tooling needed to produce the part. As a bonus
the text comes with a fully functional student version of mastercam V9.0 and accompanying student exercises so students
can practice at home. I like the fact that the authors concentrated on laying a through foundation in 2D CAD and
machining and not creating more comfusion by mixing in more complex topics like 3D CAD and maching principles. I assume
additional in depth texts on mastercam turning and 3D machinig will follow.

Not only respectable, but highly recommended

While a co-worker was spending hundreds of dollars to learn Mastercam at the local college, I learned as much at the same pace at home with this fine book. It should be sub-titled as a tutorial. The book begins assuming you know nothing about CAD or CAM. It carefully explains in a straight-forward method all you need to know. Everything is done in sequence so each excercise teaches new commands to be used. It is a great primer for new users learning Mastercam Mill. I have shared it with experienced users at work as a reference manual for 2-D machining. The book comes with a Students disk containing Mastercam software and exercises, to help you learn. This was a real time-saver for me. I would recommend this book to all beginners and professionals.

Good book, the quality is weak though

I loved the content of this book but the cover of it is a bad material. After a semester of use the cover was thrashed and I made sure to keep the book in good condition so I could resell it. If given the option to get this as a hard cover go for it!
