About the Author
Hugh D. Young is Professor of Physics at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. He attended Carnegie Mellon for both undergraduate and graduate study and earned his Ph.D. in fundamental particle theory under the direction of the late Richard Cutkosky. He joined the faculty of Carnegie Mellon in 1956, and has also spent two years as a visiting Professor at the University of California at Berkeley. Hugh's career has centered entirely around undergraduate education. He has written several undergraduate-level textbooks, and in 1973 he became a coauthor with Francis Sears and Mark Zemansky for their well-known introductory texts. In addition to his role on Sears and Zemansky's "College Physics," he is currently a coauthor with Roger Freedman on Sears and Zemanksy's "University Physics,"

Hugh is an enthusiastic skier, climber, and hiker. He also served for several years as Associate Organist at St. Paul's Cathedral in Pittsburgh, and has played numerous organ recitals in the Pittsburgh area. Prof. Young and his wife Alice usually travel extensively in the summer, especially in Europe and in the desert canyon country of southern Utah.

Robert M. Geller teaches physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he also obtained his Ph.D. under Robert Antonucci in observational cosmology. Currently, he is involved in two major research projects: a search for cosmological halos predicted by the Big Bang, and a search for the flares that are predicted to occur when a supermassive black hole consumes a star.

Rob also has a strong focus on undergraduate education. In 2003, he received the Distinguished Teaching Award. He trains the graduate student teaching assistants onmethods of physics education. He is also a frequent faculty leader for the UCSB Physics Circus, in which student volunteers perform exciting and thought-provoking physics demonstrations to elementary schools.

Rob loves the outdoors. He and his wife Susanne enjoy backpacking along rivers and fly fishing, usually with rods she has build and flies she has tied. Their daughter Zoe loves fishing too, but her fish tend to be plastic, and float in the bathtub.

Physics Solution manual

I thought that this book was going to have the solutions to all the questions from the physics book, but it is only the solutions manual to the questions from the answers that are already in the back of the book.

Good Review

This is a good study guide. It gives the actual working solutions to the problems. The only reason I did not give it a five is that it only has a selected number of problems instead of them all. The ones it has are explained quite well. If your professor dosen't give you a solution then this is the next best thing to get a answer.

Not Very Helpful

Amazon has a wonderful service. Fast shipping , fast delivery even though I selected standart shipping. The book is brand new as advertised. But it's not very helpful. The author may have some master degrees so his solutions are usually complicated and hard to follow :) Most of the time, I just use it to check the answers.

About the Author
Carlos Fuentes, born in Panama in 1928, has received many awards for his accomplishments as a novelist, essayist, and commentator, among them the Cervantes Prize. He is the author of more than twenty books, most recently (in the United States) Inez. Other Fuentes titles from FSG include Old Gringo, The Death of Artemio Cruz, and The Good Conscience. He divides his time between Mexico City and London.

En el libro Aura, el autor Carlos Fuentes hace una cr�tica de la �poca colonial, cuando los mexicanos no ten�an la libertad. Fuentes public� este libro en 1965. El cuento tiene lugar en M�xico. Un hombre joven, Felipe Montero, ve un anuncio para un trabajo que parece ser para �l y solamente �l. Felipe va a una entrevista con la mujer vieja que est� ofreciendo el trabajo. �l acepta el trabajo en la mansi�n colonial despu�s de ver los ojos de la sobrina bonita de la mujer. Felipe trabaja en la mansi�n, y no tiene permiso para salir. �l nota muchas cosas raras, que incluyen una conexi�n extra�a entre Aura, la sobrina, y su t�a, la Sra. Llorente. �l quiere ayudar a Aura para que ella pueda escapar el control de su t�a. Felipe tambi�n se siente una conexi�n con Aura. Una noche Felipe y Aura hacen el amor, pero Felipe ve a la Sra. Llorente en el cuarto despu�s del acto. La Sra. y Aura parecen hacer las mismas acciones todo el tiempo. Durante su trabajo, Felipe ve una foto del Coronel Llorente, el esposo muerte de la Sra. Me gusta este libro. Carlos Fuentes usa elementos fant�sticos y im�genes opuestas para criticar la �poca colonial y los apoyantes de esta �poca. Fuentes muestra que la �poca colonial no es real, que ya no existe. Unos ejemplos de estes elementos fant�sticos son el nombre "Aura," que indica algo m�stico, la conexi�n entre Aura y Sra. Llorente, y las caras iguales de Felipe y el Coronel Llorente. Fuentes usa las im�genes opuestas para mostrar que las personas que apoyan el periodo colonial est�n viviendo en un mundo de sue�os. Un ejemplo es la mansi�n colonial situada entre tiendas modernas. Otro ejemplo es el cuarto de Felipe. Recibe mucha luz, y al principio del cuento Felipe cree que todav�a est� conectado al mundo. Esto no es cierto, sin embargo; Felipe est� atrapado en la casa. Finalmente, hay s�mbolos del cristianismo. Aura lava los pies de Felipe, los car�cteres rompen y comen el pan, y hay una figura de Jesucristo en un cuarto. Sin embargo, el cristianismo no est� verdaderamente presente, porque la magia es la influencia principal en la casa.
Creo que Sra. Llorente crea a Aura para preservarse para siempre. Tambi�n crea a Felipe para preserver al Coronel Llorente. Aura is a short story that is written beautifully, capturing the magic and horror of an old widow living with her niece and the secret that binds the two.
The plot is fairly basic, as there isn't really much time to get deep into any of the characters. There are only four, although that is debatable as one is only known through diary recollections. The prime focus of the story is Senora Consuelo, the ageing widow, as the young historian, Felipe Montero, hired to re-assemble her dead husband's memoirs learns more and more about their dark past. Felipe becomes obsessed with the ethereally beautiful niece, Aura, his dreams are filled with feverish images of her and him, together, declaring their love.
The novella is written in an interesting style, using 2nd person perspective (You did this, then you did that), and it works well. It means that we never really get an insight into Felipe's thoughts, but at the same time we only experience things through his eyes. The writing itself alternates between dark imagery involving religion, flowers, cats, and the house the story takes place within and obsessive beauty and fragility, as when Aura is described or mysterious things are occurring. Particularly haunting are the descriptions of the gloomy house filled with the refuse of fifty years of isolation.
The ending of the story wasn't expected, or at least, while I had an idea of what was going to occur, Fuentes took my expectations and extended them to a direction I hadn't predicted and was horrified with - but in the good way. This is a very dark story, and while there are flashes of beauty, these are generally shadowed by the somber tone and melancholy whisperings present throughout the novella. Highly recommended.

Un relato lleno de magia

"Aura" ha causado controversia recientemente en Mexico, donde un grupo conservador trato de prohibirla como lectura escolar para adolescentes. Me toco leerla cuando fui alumna de un colegio catolico muy conservador... y nos encanto! Mas de 15 a�os despues, la relei y me sigue encantando. Para empezar, la narracion es en segunda persona, muy original! Te agarra desde el principio y no la puedes soltar. Desde la pagina uno, nos convertimos en protagonistas de un misterio que nos llama por nuestro nombre y no tenemos mas remedio que responder al llamado. Somos invitados a la casa de una anciana y su bella sobrina, una casa llena de gatos, de figuras de santos, de rituales, de misterios, y de amores olvidados que quieren renacer, cargados de sensualidad. Es un libro muy cortito (mi edicion tiene 62 paginas), pero da mucho para descubrir. El protagonista vive una historia de amor con una de las mujeres de la casa (o con las dos?) y durante ese tiempo, vemos referencias a tradiciones ya casi erradicadas de Mexico, como la santeria y el vudu. Todo mezclado con la influencia francesa que ayudo a moldear la "personalidad" de la Cd de Mexico y por supuesto, con la tradicion catolica tan fuertemente arraigada en este pais. En fin, una profesora mia hizo su tesis de maestria sobre AURA y dice que el mensaje de la obra es que solo en la medida en que las personas y los paises podamos recordar nuestro pasado, es que podremos aceptar el presente y mejorarlo.

About the Author
Vicki Cohen is Director of the School of Education at Fairleigh Dickinson University. She is an expert in the field of literacy and technology and has published articles in Educational Technology, Journal of Research on Computing in Education, and The Reading Teacher. Cohen has served as instructional designer for many prestigious projects including Schooldisc for ABC/NEA and Developing Interactive Courseware for SRA.

John Cowen is a tenured faculty member at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He is well-published, with several publications for the International Reading Association, including a very popular book on major research in reading education. He is a past president of the New Jersey Reading Association and currently serves as an Editorial Advisory Board Member for the IRA's Journal of Reading. Cowen is also a published poet.

Great book

Ordered this book for an elementary literacy class taught by Dr. Cowen, the author of this book. Maybe it was just because I had the author for questions but I found the book to be extremely useful. The book is full of strategies and guides for teaching literacy in the classroom. I have since finished the class and continued to refer to the book several times since.

Terrible text

This book is pretty terrible. It is almost impossible to find what chapter you're in by flipping through the pages. The information is generally very vague, that is, when you're able to understand it through all the misspellings. For some reason every other page includes an unrelated clip art image rather than any kind of informative or aesthetically pleasing photograph. Do not purchase unless you have to and then prepare to be disappointed.

About the Author
Tracie Morris is a poet, singer, critic, scholar, bandleader and actor. She holds an MFA in Poetry from Hunter College, has studied classical British acting technique at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, American acting technique at Michael Howard Studios, is an alum of Cave Canem's prestigious summer residency as well as residencies at MacDowell, Millay and Yaddo. She holds a PhD in Performance Studies from New York University. Her work has been presented at the Whitney Biennial, Ron Feldman Gallery, The New Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art and Dia: Chelsea and dozens of musical recording projects. Her books include Intermission, RHYME SCHEME (Zasterle Press, 2012) and HANDHOLDING: 5 KINDS (Kore Press, 2016) and is co-editor of Best American Experimental Writing (2016) with Charles Bernstein. Tracie is Professor and Coordinator of the MFA program in Performance + Performance Studies at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York.

About the Author
Rocky Castleberry was raised on a ranch in Central Texas and grew up around animals all of his life. He bought his first llama when he was 14 years old and has been hooked ever since. He received his Bachelor s Degree in 1986 from Texas A&M and started his own business but has continued to raise animals over the years. He has been involved with the capture and relocation of several species including (but not limited to) wild Rhea, Axis Deer, Sika Deer, Black Buck Antelope and spent 3 weeks in the Arctic circle capturing free range Reindeer for export. Capture was accomplished by conventional means such as darting and netting but the more exciting captures were accomplished by helicopters and rounding up the reindeer with snowmobiles miles from civilization. He has been a professional animal handler, handling a multitude of animals include all types of deer, antelope, elk, tapirs, hippos, giraffe, alligators, gnu, eland and smaller pet animals such as the Lemurs, Coatimundi, Kangaroo, Kinkajou, Genets, etc. (Once he even had to handle a 24 foot Boa Constrictor). He has developed special exotic animal handling facilities to handle different species to alleviate as much stress on the animals as possible. As a matter of fact, one of his designs was used to set the standards for the USDA in Central Texas. To help improve and diversify genetics within the United States, he has been involved in importing Red Deer from New Zealand and used the first cervidae insemination program in the United States. He has imported Sika Deer from Canada, Emu from Holland and has shipped Emu and other ratite eggs across the United States. He has also been involved in introducing the exotic animals into existing industries to improve genetics and yield. He once spent 6 weeks in Europe helping import exotic cattle into the United States. Rocky has been on television talk shows, has been interviewed by USA Today about the future of the animal industry and interviewed by the Boston Globe about exotic pets. He also held several press conferences in Nome & Anchorage Alaska during the importation of the reindeer and was discussed on Paul Harvey during the Reindeer adventure. He has been interviewed on financial television shows in New England about his financial book, Creating Wealth For The Average Guy . He owns a land Surveying firm, develops residential & commercial real estate and raises several species of animals. He currently resides near Georgetown, Texas with his wife, daughter and son and continues to work with his animals on a daily basis.

Coatimundi Pet Book

I liked this book. I like how the storys and experences were shared. It is a good First Coatimundi book. Especially if you want to learn about them, or if you are thinking about getting your first pet coatimundi. I wish this book would have been out when I got my first Coati, but it had not been published yet. It has some good genteral info in it, and definalty touches on some important subjects. I definatly suggest this book to everyone! My only wish that it would have had more in-depth info on them, and on coatimundi's behavior, and sounds.

Raising a Coatimundi

I will be getting a Coatimundi in the next few months and I wanted to get as much information about them. This book was recommended to me and I bought it. WHAT A WEALTH OF INFORMATION this book is. I have read it over a few times and I now have all the stuff ready for when my new baby comes I will have everything necessary to keep it happy. Then to find out that this book was written by the son of the woman that I am getting my pet from was just a hoot. I will tell anyone that if you are going to get this VERY special pet that the purchase of this book is necessary. Also it has some humorous moments in it too. It is nice to have someone who has been rasiing these types of animals for over 30 years to write a book to help those of us who are just starting. Totally recommend this book, it is an easy and short read for those who really don't like to read. If is VERY informative and also can help you make the decision if you would like to have this type of pet. Kudos to this book!!!!

Without a doubt the Castleberry family love Coatimundi. This is not only a guide for care but also a collection of personal experiences with these gorgeous and intelligent animals. Worthy and fun read whether you become a coati parent or not!
